Our Story

SwissDTx was born from a shared ambition: to make therapy more efficient, accessible and engaging for everybody involved. It began when academic researchers from Swiss universities — specialists in clinical psychology and psychotherapy — approached a team of digital product developers with a challenge: how can we build a solution for evidence-based therapy which reaches people beyond the walls of the clinic?
Together, we imagined a system where patients could stay connected to their therapists, continue their therapeutic journey between sessions, and access structured, scientifically validated interventions anytime, anywhere. What followed was a close collaboration between science, design, and technology. Researchers contributed their clinical expertise and evidence-based content; designers and developers translated that knowledge into an intuitive, secure, and human-centered digital platform.
Step by step, SwissDTx grew from a concept into a working ecosystem — a place where academic research meets real-world healthcare. Today, SwissDTx connects healthcare professionals and their patients through blended care: a model that combines human empathy with digital support. What started as a small academic–industry collaboration has evolved into a movement toward a more connected, data-informed, and compassionate future of healthcare.

Our Journey so Far

What started as an idea to make therapy more accessible has become a mission to connect people and care.
2021
The Idea Takes Shape
A group of academic researchers from the Universities of Lausanne and Fribourg recognize a growing gap in psychotherapy accessibility. The concept of a digital platform for blended care is born — combining research-based therapy with modern technology.
2022
Foundation and First Prototype
SwissDTx GmbH is officially founded in August 2022 in Meyriez, Switzerland, by Fabian Bürgy and Matthias Gutknecht, in close collaboration with Prof. Dr. Nadine Messerli, Prof. Dr. Simone Munsch, and Dr. Sven Schmutz. The team develops the first functional prototype — a secure SaaS platform for blended care — fully bootstrapped without external funding.
2023
Scientific Validation and MVP Rollout
SwissDTx supports its first clinical trial at the University of Luxembourg (“LeukoKids”), delivering digital psychoeducational interventions for children affected by leukemia. Simultaneously, the MVP is validated with researchers at the Universities of Fribourg and Lausanne.
2024
Market Launch and First Revenues
After two years of development, SwissDTx launches commercially. Paying customers include University of Fribourg, University of Luxembourg, and PEAK Nutrition / BSC Young Boys. The platform officially moves from MVP to sales stage. Selected for the Tenity HealthTech Incubator and Innosuisse Startup Coaching. Recognized by Oliver Wyman’s study on digital transformation in Swiss healthcare.
2025
Growth and Expansion
SwissDTx strengthens its partnerships with Swiss hospitals and universities, while expanding to new domains such as corporate health, rehabilitation, and nutrition coaching.
The company receives official support from the Office for Economic Development Canton Fribourg and participates in the WEF Davos.
